MANILA, Philippines – With Kevin Quiambao a last-minute replacement for Ange Kwame, Group Realty stalwarts will be at their best to represent the country despite limited preparation in the 32nd Dubai International Basketball Championship campaign starting Friday. Determined?
Strong group coach Charles Teo confirmed on Wednesday that La Salle’s top rookie of the UAAP Season 85 will replace Quimbau Koum, who was ruled out of the tournament due to dengue.
The team considered Justin Brownlee and Andre Blach, but both were unavailable.
Teo admitted that his squad had limited preparation for the tournament, barely achieving full attendance in practice. But he promises that the strong group will do their best to win the games.
“We’re mainly a college team with imports. We’ll try to win it but it’s been tough. Only today was the first time we finished. Guys were sick or injured,” Teo said in a message.
Some members of the team will go to Dubai on Wednesday, followed by the rest of the delegation on Thursday.
The formidable group owned by former Ateneo Blue Eagle Jacob Lau will open their Dubai tilt against the UAE national team on Friday at 11pm (Manila time).
Former NBA player Nick YoungRenaldo Balkman, and Shabazz Muhammad lead the college-laden squad, which also includes Korean Basketball League-bound Justin Baltazar.
Rounding out the squad are Adamson star Jerome Lastimosa, reigning NCAA MVP Will Gozum and Migs Oczon of the College of St. Benilde, University of the Philippines new recruit Francis Lebron Lopez and his teammates JD Cagulangan, Blue Eagles BJ Andrade and Inandriello Force bare ground.
