CHRIS WOOD: Nottingham Forest have completed a loan deal for the Newcastle striker in what would be a £15m summer move. Football news.

Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Newcastle striker Chris Wood on an initial loan deal.

Wood will spend the remainder of the season on loan at the City Ground, with a conditional commitment to make the deal permanent until the summer of 2024.

Forest will pay £15m to make the deal permanent in the summer.

Wood said: “It’s a great feeling and I’m very grateful to be here.

“Nottingham Forest are a big club that I’ve come up against many times, but it’s good to be able to pull on the red shirt and fight for the club now.

“You can see the change over the last 18 months and it’s moving in the right direction. It’s a project that’s going in the right direction.

“This is a club that is looking up rather than anything else, it will take a lot of hard work, but this is a squad that is coming together.

“I’ve been in this league a long time, so hopefully I’ll bring a lot of experience to help the young guys and try to bring everybody along.”

After joining from Burnley for £25m a year ago, Wood played 39 times for Newcastle, scoring five goals.

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe is hoping to replace Wood following his departure.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on Chris Wood’s exit:

“We’re planning to replace him hopefully, certainly there was no thought on my part of letting a player go and not replacing him because I think that would make us dangerously short. There will be a shortage of players, but that’s not guaranteed.

“I don’t think we’ll necessarily replace Chris with another Chris, if that makes sense.

“We’re not necessarily looking for that type of player in the market, but we’ll see what we can do in 11 days. It’s not a long time, but it has to be the right player, it’s always somebody. Also very important in the game is the transfer deal that we want to do.

“We will have targets that we will certainly achieve and we will see how we go. I think it is not necessary to have just one, we have a pool of players that we like.”
