The KIIS FM radio duo discussed the wild theory. The Kyle and Jackie O Show Tuesday morning, after both artistes played songs.

‘A lot of people believe the conspiracy theory that Sam Smith is actually Adele,’ explained Jackie.

They then played Adele’s hit single Easy On Me before lowering the pitch level, called a pitch shift, to show how similar her voice was to Sam’s.

‘It’s the real Sam,’ Kyle said of the original track.

Jackie then corrected her: ‘No, that’s the real Adele!’

As the lower-pitched version played, Kyle was surprised because the vocals sounded like 30-year-old Sam had performed them.

The pair then played Sam’s track I’m Not the Only One, before shifting the pitch higher to sound like Adele’s.

Kyle and Jackie were at a loss for words after hearing both versions.

‘Oh, wow, yes. That’s good! It looks amazing,’ said Kyle.

Sam, who is non-binary and uses he/they pronouns, first addressed the conspiracy theory on The Drew Barrymore Show on Monday.

He said the rumor started because he and Adele had never been photographed in the same room together.

Sam added that if you turn Adele’s voice down, it actually sounds like her voice.

‘Everyone thinks I’m Adele. We were never seen in the same room together. If you turn his voice down, it sounds a bit like my voice,’ he explained.

But fans weren’t convinced, with one tweeting: ‘Nobody ever, in their wildest fever dream, drunk and high on opioids ever said Sam Smith was Adele in drag.

‘the sound? Sure, sounds like it. But physically? Even a blind man would not make this mistake.’

Another wrote: ‘I want Adele’s reaction to what Sam Smith said.
