Rory McIlroy has played down talk of a clash with Patrick Reed ahead of this week’s Hero Dubai Desert Classic but added he was not interested in talking to him on the course.

McIlroy’s dispute with Reed dominated the conversation ahead of the DP World Tour event, although former Ryder Cup player Andrew Coltart questioned why so much attention was being paid to the incident.

“It’s a funny one, isn’t it?” Coltart said Sky Sports. “It’s crazy that we’re actually focusing on something like this when we’ve got a great tournament here with the world No. 1.
